Hello, so I have a cts that needs timing adjustment for cam shaft 1 and 2, I did it the first time but I did it completely wrong and it was still out of time. So basically what my friend and I did was loosen both tensioners, take the belt off the gears 1 and 2 while 3 and 4 were locked up but not the crank, then slide the belt a few teeth clockwise. So this time I watched the video and I understand how it all worked so I turned this time back to starting position but after taking the bolts out of the harmonic balancer, 2 of them were stripped and rounded so I am unable to get the wheel off the crank. Anyways so once I line up the wheel I realized that cam 1 and 2 were off by a quarter turn! Then a different friend helped me and suggested we take off the belt some other way to readjust everything and we did so by taking off the left tensioner. But after turning cam 1 it wouldn't budge it just sprung back like a tensioner would, and with enough force it would snap 180 degrees. I'm scared I screwed this up if anyone can help me I'd be much appreciated! This is my first time working with any timing belt (clearly) and I dont have much of a mechanical background other than your basic oil change.

To line the cams up you have to hold tension on the wrench and keep it in position, then slide the tool in. You can't just turn the cam, let go, then slide the tool in. It will spring back 9 times out of 10
Watch my repair video start to finish. I explain everything that you are going through. I talk about what happens if the cam springs back, and what to do. If you watch the entire video and don't skip around, everything you need to know is in there. Let me know if you run into any more problems after watching the video all the way through. Cam's 1 and 2 are going to spring back because they are on the high end of the cam lobe, they slip and go back. That's why it's important to get the cams lined up and then slide the Locking tool in.
